SICILIA PROTAGONISTA NEL CONCLAVE: MONTENEGRO E REINA TRA GLI ELETTORI DEL NUOVO PAPA

La Sicilia avrà un ruolo di primo piano nel prossimo Conclave, che si aprirà tra le sacre mura della Cappella Sistina per eleggere il successore di Papa Francesco. Due porporati siciliani, i cardinali Francesco Montenegro e Salvatore (Baldo) Reina, saranno tra gli elettori chiamati a decidere le sorti della Chiesa cattolica, portando con sé il carisma e la spiritualità di un’isola profondamente radicata nella tradizione cristiana.

Due generazioni a confronto

Francesco Montenegro, 79 anni, arcivescovo emerito di Agrigento, è una delle voci più autorevoli della pastorale caritativa in Italia. Già presidente di Caritas Italiana e figura di spicco nell’accoglienza dei migranti, parteciperà al suo ultimo Conclave, superato il limite degli 80 anni che esclude dal diritto di voto.

A rappresentare invece la nuova generazione del clero siciliano c’è Salvatore Reina, 54 anni, attuale vicario generale della diocesi di Roma e stretto collaboratore del Papa. Considerato uno dei cardinali più influenti della Curia, la sua presenza segna un passaggio significativo, con la Sicilia che torna a incidere nelle dinamiche vaticane.

Il peso della Chiesa siciliana

La doppia presenza sottolinea il ruolo centrale della Sicilia in un momento storico per la Chiesa universale. Terra di santi e di antiche diocesi, l’isola conferma la sua vocazione di crocevia tra culture e fedi, con una gerarchia ecclesiastica capace di coniugare tradizione e innovazione.

Mentre il mondo cattolico si interroga sulle sfide del futuro, dalle migrazioni alla crisi delle vocazioni, Montenegro e Reina incarnano due approcci complementari: l’esperienza del servizio ai poveri e la capacità di governo.

Il prossimo Conclave non deciderà solo il nome del nuovo Pontefice, ma anche il peso delle Chiese locali nel disegno globale della Santa Sede. E la Sicilia, con i suoi due porporati, sarà in prima fila.
